Australia’s quarter-final victory over South Africa has to go down as possibly one of the best
as well as one of the most important victories in the history of Australian rugby.

On this occasion it was Australia’s defense which ruled and the calm nerve of the Australian
forwards, who despite being under immense pressure were led wonderfully by James Horwill
and David Pocock.

Pocock’s effectiveness at the breakdown was remarkable as time after time he placed his body
in a position for a turnover (which he affected four times) or made an effective tackle to slow down
South Africa’s ball.

Although Australia struggled in the tight-five; something which may have many wearing green and gold
quite concerned ahead of facing Richie and his men in black, the effectiveness at the breakdown negated
nearly everything the Springboks did.

The other remarkable aspect of the match was just how clinical Australia were with only 24% of the territory; the
opportunity came for James O’Connor to strike an enormous psychological blow to the Springboks and he
was more than capable.

This performance can only add to the mental strength of one of the youngest sides in the tournament and it
is maturity that wins World Cups; the Australian side of ’99, Dad’s army of ’03 and the clinical Springboks of
’07 are all perfect indications of that: defense and maturity win World Cups.

………yes it is, because it is accurate, you take out the subjectivity, inter tester reliability is no longer a factor. There is no subjective judgment of what first movement is, it is cut and dried, the times are accurate……………

Vern Gambetta is a man who has dedicated his life to sprint technique. It was interesting to see his remarks about the NFL Combine on his blog
All too often we see timing being undertaken without due diligence being given to the things that make timing accurate. Inter-gate placement distance is one of these, but easily understood. The start however, has been a source of error for-ever and not a lot of people understand the implications. Even Vern’s remarks about using a ’touch pad’ , although an improvement, still has its problems. Read about our SpeedStart device and learn how Swift has solved the eternal problem of start time inaccuracies.

Damian Marsh , Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Reds says………..” At last someone has got it right ! The start issue is something we’ve all been battling for years. Swift should be congratulated for pursuing a solution for a long-term problem. I am sure we’ll see more and more sports teams pick up on this much needed technology”………….

SPEEDSTART projects a laser line vertically from the ground through your ankle joint , so you know you are starting identically on each test.At last a repeatable system is available for this age old problem, and it interfaces with the world famous Speedlight Timing Systems.
